Host Change Complete

Posted on October 25, 2009

So, the site’s finally back up- took long enough…

Anyway, I have a bunch of new posts all ready to go, and this should be a lot faster than the old version.  For the future, I’m planning on  possibly turning this stuff into a new blog with it’s own domain name- I’m trying to think of something good, so that will be interesting.  Eventually, I’ll shift the whole site over, but that’s way down the road, and I’ll post a message about it when that time comes.  What will probably happen is that I’ll repost some of the posts here, with the new stuff, on a one-to-one basis when the new domain gets opened up, and then eventually redirect this site to the new one.  I’m really looking forward to getting going on this, it should be a really fun project!

Host change

Site might be unavailable for a little bit, switching hosts and trying to get all the odds and ends collected. I’ll post something after the transition is complete.

Moving!

Well, this blog will finally be getting the attention and content it deserves… I have a bunch of half-finished posts and other great ideas for some new stuff- it’s about time!

I’m shifting the site about, so prepare for a change to this web address- I’m trying to figure out a way to get my Wordpress to export to a new web host, but it’s being tricky, and I’m not sure if there’s a way to automatically get people who are subscribed to the new address.  If I can’t work that out (as seems likely…) I may just forward all the traffic on this page to the new one, but that would mean that everyone who’s subscribed would have to update their links.  Stay tuned, I’ll probably have an update on this tomorrow.

More Library Oddities

While reviewing my last post (it’s been too long! Time for some regular updates!) on the ALA and the general craziness of library conventions, I stumbled onto various library Flickr pages. I’m getting a sudden desire to become a librarian- good hours, plentiful reading time, satisfying organization tasks, frightening owls, etc…

Weird/Awesome Cover Art

Apparently, the American Library Association convention is a lot more fun than I have been led to believe. From the ALA’s Flickr page, detailing what appears to be a dance competition between different libraries, utilizing re-purposed book carts (the “Book Cart Drill World Championships”) and a healthy dose of Busby Berkeley style insanity. Da, Comrade! Hip-Hop, Soviet Montage, & Do the Right Thing

Various forms of revolution- Dziga Vertov, Cinema God and premier montagist made brilliant films like Man With A Movie Camera, using jump-cuts and clever editing to make his mark: Buggin’ Out, played by Giancarlo Esposito, inspired by Public Enemy. (Source- Vertov, Buggin’ Out)

‘Statement on Sound’ is a landmark 1928 joint statement by the early Soviet masters Eisenstein, Pudovkin, and Alexandrov. It is largely an attempt at predicting the impact of sound in cinema, just a single year after the seminal premiere of The Jazz Singer in 1927.
